Last week I got a text from my friend Ryan Stutt at King Magazine that an old friend Darrell Smith had been hit by a car and was in the hospital on life support. He had brain damage and things were not looking good.
A few days previous, he had rolled his ankle skateboarding. Randomly on the weekend, I ran into Sean Mo, who he worked with. He mentioned that he was using a cane to walk around. He was was walking across the street in Toronto when he got hit by a cab.
Unfortunately, he passed away this past long weekend after his family decide to take him off of life support.
Just like Justin Bokma who died last year, it’s so sad to see a young gifted skater lose their life.
Even though it has a been years since I saw him last, I remember how friendly he was. Such a nice guy. He was also SO GOOD on a skateboard. He was a champ. He killed manuals and had such power, finesse and style.
I don’t know what his faith was, but I’m hoping that one day I’ll see him in Heaven. My prayers are with his family and they will have peace through this hard time.
